Supplementary election: INEC declares Ondo PDP senatorial candidate winner

Report from The News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN) has it that the Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Mr. Nicholas Tofowomo the winner of the Ondo South supplementary elections.

As reported by The News Agency Of Nigeria, Tofomowo polled 81,892 to defeat his opponent who is an incumbent senator, Sen. Yele Omogunwa of the All Progressive Congress Who polled 55,610 votes.

Having polled the largest number of votes, The INEC Returning Officer for Ondo South declared Tofofomo winner of the election.

“Having satisfied the law by having the highest number of votes in a concluded election, I hereby declare Tofowomo of the PDP winner and he is hereby returned elected,’’ he said.

According to NAN reports,
Tofowomo had earlier polled 71,029 against Omogunwa who polled 51,993 during the Feb 23rd, 2019 National Assembly election.

Due to irregularities in 56 polling units, The INEC returning officer had declared the election inconclusive owing to the fact the canceled 28,047  votes were higher than the margin of 27,036 votes between Tomowo and his opponent.
